Aside from digital 3D creations, I also make physical 3D objects. In particular, I make robots, especially robots from Star Wars and other science fiction series. I tend to start one or two new builds per year, usually in the summer. They often end up debuting at Dragon Con if I get them done in time.
Past Projects
- Artie Deco and BBL-BBQ – As featured on this very site. My first full prop robot build. Artie Deco is a “Space Drone” from the 1978 Star Wars satire, Hardware Wars. He debuted at Dragon Con 2016, and was first motorized for Dragon Con 2018. BBL-BBQ was my interpretation of what BB-8 might look like in the (imaginary) sequel, Hardware Wars: The Farce Awakens.
- The Teapot Pepperpot Mk I (aka Mr. Shouty) – A Dalek in a teapot, serving tea. This was my first splendid teapot racer, appearing at Dragon Con’s inaugural Splendid Teapot Race in 2016. (which was cancelled due to lack of entrants, but we still held exhibition races).
- The NauTEAlus – My second teapot racer based on Captain Nemo’s Nautilus, built for the Dragon Con 2017 Splendid Teapot Race.
- BB-5M – I created a custom dome for one of my SpinMaster Hero Droids, based on one of Christian Alzmann’s concept paintings for BB-8 with artistic license to personal taste. First appeared at Dragon Con 2019.
- P-1P – A tiny MSE-4 mouse droid built that originally started as a 3/4 scale Mouse droid project. First appeared at Dragon Con 2019.
- Ghostbusters Remote Trap Vehicle – A quick rendition of an R/C Ghost Trap (as shown in the second trailer for Ghostbusters: Afterlife). It was made from EVA foam roughly a week before Dragon Con 2021, because I already had a chassis and some foam.
- LD-F1 – Another concept art droid, this one based on Luke D. Fisher’s unused concept for D-O. First appeared at Dragon Con 2022.
- 99-99 (aka Four-Nines) a droid from the Star Wars: Visions episode “The Ninth Jedi” First appeared at Dragon Con 2022.
- Iron MSE – A very pink MSE-6 Mouse Droid that first appeared at Dragon Con 2023. Unrelated to Barbie
- Christian Alzmann D-O concept #2 (Orange/White Monowheel D-O) – CAD was started shortly after Dragon Con 2023
Long Term Projects
- Treadwell – Spindly stick robots seen in the Jawa Sandcrawler, the Lars farm, Hoth, etc.
- R2-D2 – My extremely long term R2 build.
For Future Use
